COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Leesburg hosts the Kiwanis Halloween parade today as it starts at Ida Lee Park at 6 p.m. and ends at Fairfax Street, with parade members lining up between 4 and 5:15 p.m.—participants are asked to bring food for Loudoun Hunger Relief—and King Street closed to traffic from 5:30 p.m. for safe passage.  Loudoun Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eyetopia celebrated 23 years on October 18 with a ribbon cutting at its Leesburg store and introduced a new children’s brand identity with the playful 'Kid Seen' logo designed by local artist Brady Wiley—this event marked a fresh chapter for the boutique known for its unique eyewear and accessories.  Blue Ridge Leader
  • Roots 657 Cafe and Local Market in rural Loudoun County announced it will serve its last guests on December 14 and close on December 15—marking nearly a decade of service in the Lucketts area. The restaurant located at the intersection of Highway 15 and Spinks Ferry Road will continue offering catering and Thanksgiving meal prep until its final day.  The Burn

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last night, the Leesburg Town Council recognized October as Hindu Heritage Month. Mayor Kelly Burk and Tony Howard presented a certificate to Lead America—who said the celebration of Hindu traditions and festivals helps unite the community.  Loudoun Now
  • This year marks the 200th anniversary of Snickersville Academy—one of Loudoun County's oldest surviving schoolhouses built in 1825. It once served as both a school and church and now stands near Clayton Hall Road on Snickersville Turnpike with a historic marker honoring its role in shaping Bluemont.  Blue Ridge Leader

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Loudoun County Public Schools reported that enrollment fell to 80,517 by Sept. 30—the lowest since 2016—and projections show it will drop to 80,201 by Sept. 30 and further to 77,360 by 2031; declines in elementary and middle school numbers are linked to lower birth rates, fewer single-family housing permits, and an aging population.  Loudoun Now
  • Students from Lightridge High School Marching Storm were invited to perform in the 2027 London New Year's Day Parade after a ceremony on Oct. 28—where London officials extended the invitation—and received commemorative items from Buckingham Palace. One student received an umbrella—meant to keep her dry for the next 14 months—as the band prepares to represent its community in London.  Loudoun Now

  • A longtime county resident warned that the fight to keep our Blue Ridge Mountains free of new development is not over as more residential and commercial projects push into our rural areas—he said citizens must act now to protect our natural heritage.  Blue Ridge Leader

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Loudoun County and Leesburg town officials declared November 4—11 as Operation Green Light for Veterans when key buildings, including the County Government Center and the Charles Hamilton Houston Courthouse, will be illuminated in green to honor military veterans. Leesburg will also light its police department and Town Green during the week as part of a nationwide effort to support veterans and raise awareness about the challenges they face after service.  Loudoun County
  • Residents met at Rust Library on Oct. 28 to voice worries about the plan to link water and sewer lines in Waterford and Paeonian Springs by questioning costs, well health issues, and possible damage along Clarkes Gap Road (a scenic byway). County Chair Randall and Supervisor Kershner said the county will not rush the project and will work to improve its outreach as it reviews next steps.  Loudoun Now
  • Town staff in Purcellville issued a boil water advisory following a water main break in the drinking water system — residents and businesses must boil water for one minute or treat it with bleach until officials lift the advisory.  Blue Ridge Leader

  • Potomac Crossing Park, located off Shanks Evans Road near Battlefield Parkway, offers Leesburg residents a natural escape with trails linking Balls Bluff Regional Park and Edwards Landing—visitors can enjoy hiking in dense woods that clear to a park pavilion and playground.
