EDUCATION NEWS

  • Amy Riccardi, a longtime Sterling resident, consultant and adjunct professor at GMU, unseated incumbent Arben Istrefi in the Loudoun County School Board race for the Sterling District by winning 51.5% of the vote—she will focus on supporting Title I schools, addressing food insecurity and ensuring safe learning environments for students.  WTOP

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office banned outdoor burning until further notice because low moisture and high winds set conditions for brush fires — a decision made after four brush fires, including one that burned over an acre, were reported between Oct. 28 and Nov. 4 — and violators may face up to one year in jail or a fine of $2,500.  Loudoun Now
  • Loudoun County government holds an online surplus auction that offers vehicles, exercise equipment and office items. The auction closes at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13 (buyers must register on Public Surplus) and items are available for pick-up by appointment (at 14 Cardinal Park Drive in Leesburg).  Loudoun County
  • Loudoun County board of supervisors proclaimed November 15 as America Recycles Day — a national effort to boost recycling and reduce waste. Residents can pledge to recycle for a chance to win REI gift certificates while the county continues to support local recycling programs.  Loudoun County
