- ➤ Last weekend, Middleburg American Legion Post 295 honored 18 veterans with a ceremony that added their names to the Hometown Heroes banners along Washington Street and held a joint Remembrance Day event with British representatives. - ➤ The Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department and Loudoun Hunger Relief are hosting the 23rd annual Freeze Your Gizzard Cross Country 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Ida Lee Park with the 5K beginning at 9 a.m. and the 1 Mile Fun Run starting at 10 a.m. Pre-registered 5K runners will get a commemorative shirt—while one-mile runners receive a medal—and participants can drop off non-perishable food or add a donation to support the local food pantry. - ➤ Loudoun County will open the Hypothermia Prevention Shelter on November 15 for single adults facing homelessness; the temporary facility will operate from 5:00 p.m. to 8:30 a.m. every night until March 31, with guests first checking in at the Homeless Services Center at 19520 Meadowview Court in Leesburg.
