- ➤ Leesburg’s Rock Spring Farm saw its last cow, Maude, leave for a new home in the Hillsboro countryside last week, ending more than 260 years of farming at the site. Dr. Jack Cook is working with town leaders to turn the 13-acre property—listed on the National Register since 2002—into a town park that will honor its historic role for the community. Loudoun Now

- ➤ Soprano Kerry Holahan will perform Handel’s Messiah at Shiloh Manor Farm on Saturday, December 13 at 6 p.m.—she will be joined by a Baroque ensemble and guests will enjoy a French wild-game dinner featuring elk steak in a peppercorn cream sauce. Blue Ridge Leader

- ➤ Over 600 Loudoun County Public Schools students participated in the annual Job for a Day program on Nov. 19 and 20—visiting 80 businesses in fields like law enforcement, healthcare, trades and marketing to explore potential career paths. Loudoun Now
- ➤ Ashburn and Purcellville natives on the VMI Army ROTC Ranger Challenge team won a bronze medal at Exercise Cambrian Patrol in the Brecon Beacons, Wales from Oct. 3-12—this was their second year competing and they earned the medal with only a month of training in harsh conditions. - ➤ After a three-year process and seven months of public input, Loudoun County supervisors approved two noise reduction measures to ease disturbance for residents near Dulles Airport—one requires pilots to use a steeper climb and the other sets a nighttime flight track from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., while the proposal to consolidate departure routes was not chosen. - ➤ Loudoun County Commissioner of the Revenue Robert S. Wertz Jr. announced new assessment schedules for business equipment, data center computer equipment, heavy equipment and machinery and tools that will take effect Jan. 1 and require taxpayers to report acquisition costs from recent years. Taxpayers will receive notices starting December 10 — written comments on the machinery and tools change will be accepted through December 13. Blue Ridge Leader
