Gilberts Corner, a 98-year-old historic gas station built in 1927, was torn down Tuesday for safety after years of review by the Piedmont Environmental Council.
The demolition took place at the crossroads of U.S. 50 & U.S. 15, leaving the site as an unpaved lot.
The Ursula Landsrath Animal Rescue Fund and Community Foundation for Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties awarded $70,000 in grants to 41 animal rescue nonprofits across Virginia.
